Our SEMH and SLCN interventions support students with social, emotional, mental health, and communication needs, helping to reduce barriers to learning and promote positive engagement with school. Our aim is to support students’ emotional wellbeing, communication, and learning confidence so they are able to access education successfully and make meaningful progress. Support is needs driven, evidence based, and time limited. Interventions are delivered by trained staff and qualified therapists alongside classroom and pastoral support. Provision is monitored and reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective and responsive to students’ needs. Students demonstrate improved emotional regulation, communication, and confidence. As barriers are reduced. engagement with learning increases and progress improves, including towards EHCP outcomes, where relevant.

All interventions are accessed through the Intervention Team and external agencies. Progress is reviewed regularly to ensure provision continues to meet students’ needs and achieves positive outcomes.
Literacy support is provided to students who experience difficulties with reading, writing, phonics, or language comprehension. Support is delivered 1:1 or in small groups through structured programmes over short intervention cycles, improving access to learning and confidence.
ELSA support helps students develop emotional regulation, resilience, and social understanding through weekly 1:1 or small group sessions. As a result, students build coping strategies, emotional awareness, and stronger relationships.
TalkAbout supports students with social communication and interaction skills, including turn-taking, conversation, and understanding social cues. Structured small group sessions help students develop confidence and positive peer relationships.
Drama therapy provides a safe and creative space for students to explore emotions, trauma, communication, and identity, particularly where verbal expression is challenging. Weekly 1:1 session support improves emotional expression, wellbeing, and engagement.
Play therapy supports emotional regulation, communication, and healing through therapeutic play, particularly for students with trauma or attachment needs. Weekly 1:1 sessions help students feel safe, regulated, and more ready to learn.
We employ a SLCN and neurodiversity consultant at Sky to support us with our understanding of pathways, assessments and approaches to learners across our setting. She also delivers a wide range of training programmes.
