Intent
The purpose of CREW sessions is to foster a strong sense of belonging, emotional safety, and personal growth for all students. CREW supports the school’s wider mission to ensure every young person feels known, valued, and equipped with the social and emotional tools needed to thrive both in and beyond school.
Aims
- To build positive, trusting relationships between students and staff.
- To create consistent, supportive environment where students experience belonging.
- To explicitly teach social, emotional, and communication skills.
- To promote collaboration, empathy, resilience, and respect.
- To provide a space for reflection, personal development, and community-building.
- To ensure students with SEMH and SLCN needs are supported through targeted, accessible, and engaging activities.
Rationale
CREW provides the foundation for a strong school culture. Through structured sessions, students practice self-regulation, communication, teamwork, and self-understanding. These skills underpin behaviour, learning readiness, and emotional wellbeing.
Implementation

Each session includes:
- Opening Routine: A low-pressure check-in, game, or connection activity.
- Core Focus Activity: A structured activity developing skills such as communication, emotional literacy, teamwork, problem solving, or self-awareness.
- Reflection: A short, supported opportunity for students to think about how they engaged, what they learned, or how the group worked together.
